The electric stimulations are applied for treatment of the following diseases:
1. Treatment of vision disorders:
-
various genesis optic nerve atrophy
-
optic nerve (underdevelopment) hypoplasia
-
I-II stage open-angle glaucoma with normalized intraocular pressure
-
-
diplopia (paralytic strabismus)
-
amblyopia ("lazy eye")
-
progressive myopia
The most significant results are achieved when treating small children with optic nerve hypoplasia. Totally blind children acquire the object vision by means of electric stimulations which enables them to be independent in everyday life. It is desirable to begin applying the electric stimulations up to the child 1-st year. Thanks to the application of the electric stimulations, the field of vision of the patients with glaucoma is enlarged, the “mist” before the eyes is decreased, the disease progress is either slowed down or stopped at all.
2. Treatment of hearing disorder of children and adults:
-
sensorineural deafness (hearing loss)
-
mixed form of deafness (combination of sensorineural deafness with inner ear lesion
-
otosclerosis (cochlear form)
The treatment efficiency will be within 70-85% range depending upon the disease term and the hearing function reduction degree. The treatment of deafness of any degree by the method invented by A.N. Shandurina, professor, will enable to improve the hearing functions and to prevent the disease progress. Sooner the treatment started then there is more probability to regain the hearing functions.
The most impressive results to improve the hearing disorders are obtained when treating children with the ES- thus contributing to their active speech development, to the improvement of psycho-physiologic adaptation in the social medium. We were witnesses of several cases when, having the hearing function reduction to a greater extent, the sound perception was restored to the normal characteristics.
3. Treatment of nervous system diseases in the form of movement disorders, sensitivity disturbances, memory impairment, disturbances of speech, emotional sphere and thinking caused by:
-
consequences of cranio-cerebral injuries
-
parkinsonism
-
cerebral stroke after effects
-
dysc i rculatory encephalopathies
-
neur o infections
-
consequences of the brain tumor removal
-
consequences of hydrocephaly or hypertensive syndrome
-
disseminated sclerosis
-
perinatal brain pathology
-
epilepsy
The unique nature of the ES treatment of epilepsy involves a selective activation of the brain structures inhibiting the brain epileptic readiness.
C ontradictions against the method application:
-
when there is uncompensated glaucoma with high values of intraocular pressure (IOP) - over 27 mm Hg (in cases when it is required to treat the vision disorder)
-
when there are non-operated malignant tumors and in cases of tumor continued growth in the after-operation period
-
psychos e s
-
when there are acute infections and inflammatory diseases
-
availability of hemodynamically-significant stenoses of brain great vessels
Method efficiency: for 70-80% of the patients, treated by the method, progress of the disease becomes suspended and its manifestations become reduced. Patients with epilepsy lose the disease fits in 30% of the cases, following the first course of the treatment and, in some 40-50% of the cases, the fits become rare and light. The positive results of the electric stimulation application are preserved and they are even enhanced during the next 3-4 months after the ES, due to improvement of the conductivity and excitability of the nervous system and to improvement of circulation and metabolic processes at the cellular level. The results of the most common disease treatment are represented hereafter.
